Plots in Pakistan's press

July 16, 2010 |14:58 | Others  By : Team X

Wearing army fatigues and a red cap, Zaid Hamid is perhaps Pakistan's best-known television personality. The strategic affairs expert, who coined the term 'Hindu Zionist' to describe the hypothetical Indian and Israeli nexus against Pakistan, has become a household name across the country for his conspiracy theories on economic terrorism and Indian-U.S.-Israeli plotting.

His Facebook page currently has a following of 66,000, among them students of expensive schools and even pop singers and fashion designers. Whether it is explaining Taliban militancy, Pakistan's ever-present electricity crisis, Blackwater's involvement in planning terrorist attacks, or plans for the U.S. to take over Pakistan's nuclear weapons, conspiracy theorists call the shots in Pakistan.

This is…Radio Pakistan

May 31, 2010 |15:26 | Others  By : Team X

Radio Pakistan played an important role in making Pakistani film music popular in the 1950s and 1960s, and was the medium through which Urdu ghazals were first introduced. This was an era during which 48 per cent of all the programs that went on air were related to music.

Baloch told The Express Tribune, “Plays which are all time favourites with people of Pakistan are sometimes re-broadcast.” However in the modern era, most of what is aired is produced live and not pre-recorded. Baloch told The Express Tribune, “From a pure radio station, we are now moving into the broadcasting phase. How can one say that its hey-day is over?

Even today, every Friday at 7 pm the Prime Minister makes a speech on Radio Pakistan that is broadcast live across Pakistan. It is the only medium which is available to a person even in the far flung rural areas of the country and sometimes even to sailors (who are in ships on the Arabian Sea).”

Mirza said the decision to settle in Dubai was more for the convenience of both rather than just trying to get away from the media glare.

“If you had asked me five years ago if I wanted to settle in Dubai, then I wouldn’t have given it a thought.

But life takes its turns and we have come up with a decision that’s going to benefit both of us,” she told the newspaper.

“There are so many Indian and Pakistan expats here that you don’t feel you are staying from home. This apart, it will be much easier for me to travel on the Tour with so many direct flights from here than from Hyderabad,” she added.
