Pakistan is India’s ‘most important’ neighbouring country, and politics should not hinder bilateral trade between the two countries, Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Sunday. He made these comments while laying the foundation stone of the first Integrated Check Post at Attari along the Pak-India border.
“Even though Pakistan has not reciprocated by granting ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status to India, this does not mean New Delhi will stop encouraging trade with Islamabad. We shall continue to negotiate over the matter, and will seek to facilitate cross-border movement of passengers and cargo along the land route,” The Hindu daily quoted Chidambaram as saying. “India has many neighbours and the one to the country’s west is the most important.
