President Asif Ali Zardari should avoid speeches which can cause “huge losses of lives and property” such as the ones incurred recently in Karachi, Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed has said.
After a visit to Boulton Market, Syed said that President Zardari had claimed that the Ashura tragedy was a reaction to the speech that he had delivered a day before. The president had also said that some “hidden forces” were involved in this act.
The PML-Q leader called on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Sunni Tehreek (ST), Mufti Rafi Usmani, Mufti Munibur Rehman, and Shia Ulema including Maulana Hasan Zafar Naqvi, and said that the Ashura incident had exposed the government’s inability to save people’s lives and property.
“All parties and religious leaders are convinced that there are no sectarian differences in Karachi,” he said, adding that the Ashura bombing and arson were acts of terrorism. “This is a national tragedy, and all sections of society, as well as political and religious parties must unite to foil such acts,” he maintained.
Syed said that the security forces have failed to deliver and the government has failed to provide any relief to the people affected by the Ashura events in Karachi. He supported the demand of the business community and said that compensation should be paid as early as possible to rehabilitate the affected people.
