Yeh Radio Pakistan Lahore hai

March 4, 2010 |16:24 |   By : Team X

The Lahore that was Chauburj It was a glorious spring day in 1960 that I accompanied my father to the Radio Pakistan Lahore for an audition. This was a time when the radio station was housed in a sprawling old bungalow near the Simla Pahari gate of the Governors House. The studios were located in the main building, while a ‘U’ shaped annex across the rear courtyard made up the offices of the producers and administrative paraphernalia.

As one entered the gate, one passed along a drive and into a porch that connected another small building to the main structure. This was the accounts office from where one got paid for the programmes one did. The radio station was surrounded by trees and there was a fairly well maintained lawn in front fringed by Jaman trees.

Life at Radio Pakistan Lahore was an unforgettable experience. Everyone from celebrity to the chaprassi acted as part of one big family. The young were respectful towards their older peers and the latter responded with great affection and dignity.

Fatwa condemns terrorists as un-Islamic

March 3, 2010 |16:45 | Others  By : Team X

The word 'fatwa' became synonymous with death threats in the 1980s after the publication of Salman Rushdie’s book The Satanic Verses prompted a fatwa that forced him into hiding for several years. But the religious ruling read out in London on Tuesday proves that this – incorrect - interpretation couldn’t be further from the truth.

Un-Islamic' The 600-page document is aimed primarily at Muslim Pakistanis. It denounces terrorists and suicide bombers as ‘unbelievers’ and focuses on the Sufi traditions of tolerance and moderation. “The act of terrorism is the act of disbelief," ul-Qudri told Radio Netherlands Worldwide.

"They [terrorists] go outside of the ambit of Islam and they will go to hell. This act of terrorism is enmity, it is against humanity. The Koran condemns them and these people who commit acts of terrorism are not to be considered Muslims. This is the fatwa I have given.”

We are lagging behind

February 23, 2010 |13:20 | Lollywood  By : Team X

We are lagging behindShe finds comparisons with Aishwarya Rai flattering  the two have their beauty and Lux ads in common  but her real inspiration is Vyjayanthimala, whose appeal she says is “timeless”. Meet Reema Khan, star of Lollywood, the aspirational appellation by which Pakistan's film industry is popularly known.

For over three decades, the struggling Lahore-based industry has been trying to pull itself out of the doldrums. The hope that “Khuda Key Liye”, the 2007 film with a contemporary storyline about Islam, terrorism, youth and music, would bring a turnaround in the industry was short-lived.

Two years later, in 2009, Lollywood managed to release just a dozen films, none of them by anyone of note and all of them low-budget “formula-films” that sank without a trace. And despite the undercurrent of anti-India feelings since New Delhi put the pressure on Pakistan for the Mumbai incidents, the popularity of Bollywood films has remained undiminished. Hindi films from across the border are available on DVDs virtually on the day of their release in India, and in the last few years, cinemas have begun showing them too after a ban on them was lifted.

Pakistan is our most important neighbour, says Chidambaram

February 22, 2010 |13:13 | Others  By : Team X

Pakistan is India’s ‘most important’ neighbouring country, and politics should not hinder bilateral trade between the two countries, Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Sunday. He made these comments while laying the foundation stone of the first Integrated Check Post at Attari along the Pak-India border.

“Even though Pakistan has not reciprocated by granting ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status to India, this does not mean New Delhi will stop encouraging trade with Islamabad. We shall continue to negotiate over the matter, and will seek to facilitate cross-border movement of passengers and cargo along the land route,” The Hindu daily quoted Chidambaram as saying. “India has many neighbours and the one to the country’s west is the most important.

Say No to GEO TV, Geo.tv Sucks !

February 20, 2010 |13:47 | Others  By : Team X

Why this is happening here? Because this is our great Pakistan and Geo is so influential here, They just asked FIA and they caught them. I don’t think Fire Records (Geo TV) had even followed a legal procedure to take
down the songs from their websites. Had they sent Any personal complaint to website owners by Fire Records? If you check IPs of both websites, They belong to United States.

The United States People are much more serious than Fire Records regarding copyright infringements they had taken down requested songs if Fire records had sent any complaint. What happened is fire record lodged a complaint in FIA and FIA took action against the website because the complaint comes from very influential media group. I am 100% sure, non.

Phir Mile Sur Mera Tumhara fails to rekindle emotions

February 17, 2010 |15:45 | Others  By : Team X

Reviving a song that played in the head of every Indian for over 20 years was never going to be easy, but adman Kailash Surendranath, who was producer on the original, fractures the iconic Mile Sur Mera Tumhara in his attempt to refresh it. Unlike the original, this is not really a song but a 16-minute star platform for the celebs who signed on.

Because of the length, perhaps, it looks like they were pretty much allowed to do what they wanted. Music directors Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy give it their own take, violinist L. Subramaniam and family add lines in English and Kannada in their own style, Sonu Nigam adds a rock feel, as does Shaan. So the song has several different tunes, not the catchy melody of the original, and there is nothing left to hum when the song is over. And the visuals are even more disjointed.

In the original, the national integration theme came through; in the remake, the interminable length, and the disproportionate amount of time given to Bollywood (there’s even a rain-drenched actress, and what looks like a lot of lip-synching) makes it an extended item song version of a classic.
